The uniqueness of the Lillehammer region and the Radisson SAS Lillehammer Hotel is world famous. In Norway there is a tradition to go up in the mountainous regions around Lillehammer both in fall and in the wintertime. The reason is simple: The nature, the fresh air and the tranquility.

In 1994 the 17th Olympic Winter Games where held in Lillehammer. Our conference hotel was chosen as the headquarters for the International Olympic Committee during the games. Even in the years leading up to the games many top international conferences for the IOC and sponsors where held in this hotel.

It is not just the history of past Olympic glory and maybe a hint of seasoned Olympic rivalry, doping and corruption that lies in the walls of our selected conference hotel. Besides queens and dignitaries, plain old fashioned blues legends, country music legends and hard core bikers in heavy leatherjackets have frequented the rooms and halls of the Lillehammer Hotel.

Outside the skiing season, when the hotel is filled with Danes, Germans, Russians, Swedes and more taking advantage of the hundreds of kilometers with prepared tracks and slopes in the area. The hotel comes alive with colorful events like the Harley Davidson Owners Club Rally, Lillehammer Blues Festival and Lillehammer Country Music Festival. This year there is even a heavy metal festival and a rock festival at the hotel, not at the time of our conference though.

Since the Olympic Games where held, there is always something interesting going on in the vicinity of Lillehammer.

The committee behind the Global Investigative Journalism Conference 2008 hopes that you will enjoy your stay. Whenever you have time outside the sessions, you should take the opportunity to stroll in the historic main street of Lillehammer. It is just a few minutes walk from the hotel (600 meters). Take a short hike up to the Olympic Skijumping venue just above the hotel. Visit the historic site of Maihaugen, an open air museum where you can “investigate” Norwegian history. Maihaugen is just a short walk from the hotel (450 meters).

The concerence hotel has 4 bars, 2 restaurants, outdoor and indoor swimming pool, fitness center and saunas.
